Elsie Campbell grew up with a needle in
her hand in the small Mennonite
community
of Deer Creek, Oklahoma. After graduating from Northwestern Oklahoma
State
University
at Alva she taught home economics, music and special education in
public schools.
She began exhibiting her quilts nationally in 1992 and has won such
prestigious awards
as: 1st place at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, 1997;
Best of Show at
Quilt America! in Indianapolis, 2000; the Mary Krickbaum Award for Best
Hand Quilting
at the National Quilt Association Show, 2001; and the American
Quilter's Society's
Excellence in Hand Workmanship Award, 2003.
Elsie is a freelance writer and editor, writing articles for
Quilting Today,
Traditional
Quiltworks, Miniature Quilts,
McCall's Quilting and
Quilter's
Newsletter magazines
and wrote chapters for several volumes of Rodale Press's
Successful Quilting Library.
Her quilts have appeared in numerous books and she is soon to be an
author. Her first
book is
Nine Patch and Snowball
Quilts (Chitra Publications 2003) and her second
book,
Winning Stitches with
C&T Publishing, is scheduled for release in April, 2004.
