Kerry's World Piece Quilt

©1997 (54" x 72")

Machine pieced using my freezer paper drafting and
template technique; machine appliqué and hand painting;
hand and machine quilted.
Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly blend batting.

My son Kerry is a world traveler, beginning when he was only 14,
with a month-long home stay with a Japanese family.
He then traveled for 10 weeks through Europe between his junior
and senior years in high school. This quilt was inspired by a small
quilt pattern by Georgia Bonesteel. There are 100 different earth
and sky-tone prints in the globe. The flying geese blocks were sent
all over the world for Kerry's friends in far places to sign before being
incorporated into this quilt. Collecting the signatures from friends and
family took the most time, but was well worth the effort. (Kerry is the
center figure in the lower row. He is holding his 3 most prized possesions
at the time: his camera, his blue racing bicycle, and his clarinet!)

Juried into AQS Show, Paducah, KY 1998

1st place Child's Quilt, Asheville NC 1998
