Tweaking Tradition
Today's quiltmakers have discovered a variety of ways
to make stunning quilts based on traditional patterns
by adding their own unique twists. Lecture includes
quilts made by internationally-acclaimed artists Ricky
Tims, Ann Fahl, and Sharon Newman, among others.
Enjoy this visual smorgasborg of colorful quilts.

Simply Beautiful: 9-Patch & Snowball Quilts
View a selection of quilts from the book Nine-Patch
and Snowball Quilts (Chitra Publications, 2003). Learn
easy techniques for accurate stitching and quick
piecing. In addition to finished quilts, the trunk
show includes works- in- progress. Whether you are
just beginning your quilting journey or have enjoyed
making quilts for many years, you'll love this
presentation. Trunk show features 10+ full-sized and
small scale quilts.

Coordinated or scrappy, two simple blocks combine for
a perfect first project. Learn easy strip piecing
techniques, and add a heart appliqué. (See "Hearts of

Seeing Stars?!!!
Piece perfect stars with pointers from Elsie. She
shares secrets for preventing belly-button centers and
pin-wheeling points. From cutting and stitching to
pressing and setting in triangles and squares, this
class covers it all! Kit available for $18.00

Fun with Flowers
Turn scraps into an appliquéd floral medallion wall
quilt. Paper-backed fusible webbing makes it easy.
Your imagination makes it beautiful.

Fancy Floral Stenciled Blocks
Duplicate the look of intricate appliqué with
stenciling. Cut freezer paper stencil, apply paint,
and add details with permanent ink. See Elsie's award
winning quilt, "Triple Trio" on the cover of Quilting
Today Magazine, iss. 75, pp. 35-38.

Spectacular String-Piece Quilts
Spend a day turning bits and pieces of fabric into a
delightful quilt. Manufacture your own yardage for
blocks or floral appliqués. Enjoy the spontaneity of
string piecing. (Technique, design. 6 hours.

Very Portable Patchwork
Make an whole bed-sized quilt entirely by hand? Yes,
you really can! Learn traditional hand piecing
techniques including tips for packaging blocks,
stitching while traveling, and ideas for making
handwork fit in busy lifestyles. (Technique. 3
hours—All levels.)

Good Marks for Great Quilts
Mark quilting designs without ever cutting a stencil.
Draft one-of-a-kind feathered quilting motifs,
transfer them to freezer paper, then use the freezer
paper marking guide to mark a quilt top for quilting.
This technique was featured in the book "Winning
Stitches." (Design. 3 hours— All levels.)

One-Patch Wonders
Sometimes known as charm quilts, one-patch quilts use
a single pattern shape. Choose from six patterns for a
wall quilt or framed picture. Optional kit includes
gradated hand-dyed fabrics for one project, template
plastic, black fabric for inner border and
instructions for framing. Kit fee: $20.00. (Project. 6
hours—Intermediate+. Sewing machine required.)


   

Precision Piece Perfect Points
Combine the speed of rotary cutting with the accuracy
of templates to make intricate quilt blocks. Stitch
"Pride of the Prairie" to learn precise machine
piecing without foundations. (Technique. 6
hours—Intermediate+. Requires sewing machine.)



Blazing Star Table Runner
Add sparkle to your table with stars in 2 sizes.
Freezer paper templates make the Blazing Star block
child's play. Large star: 16" square; small stars: 12"
square. Finished table runner: 24" x 56". (Project. 6

Wall Flower
Based on the techniques Elsie used to create her
award-winning quilt Star Flower. This is a smaller
version (24" square) but uses most of the same
techniques to complete. Try your hand at the Wall
Flower, and you're prepared to make the larger version
from Elsie's new pattern. (to be released by C&T
Publishing September 2004.) (Project. 6
hours-Intermediate+. Requires sewing machine.)




Falling Leaves

Only two simple blocks are used to compose the center
of this stunning quilt. Learn to stitch perfect curved
seams and simple needle-turn appliqué, then play with
blocks to develop the graceful vine-like lines that
make up the barn-raising set.
(Technique and project. 6 hours. Experienced beginner to Intermediate level.
Sewing machine required.)



Tied up in Knots: Really Skinny Bias Celtic-Style Appliqué

Don't get "tied up in knots" over making bias binding
strips for Celtic work. Elsie's technique for making
1/8"-wide bias is "sew" simple, you'll be amazed!
You'll get a free pattern for an original Celtic Knot
block, along with expert instruction for needle turn
appliqué. (Technique. 3 hours. Intermediate. Hand work
only, no sewing machine required.)
